  • Overview

    Primary responsibilities include creating, designing, and implementing technical solutions for the credit union. Also responsible for building new systems needed by the credit union and must be able to identify the credit union’s current problems and future technological goals. The technical architect must anticipate and identify IT needs and design a solution, and must make sure the solution works as efficiently as possible for all parties involved. Also responsible for improving end-user experience or ensuring the credit union’s internal digital framework works smoothly. This position will work closely with other members of the Ascend Information Technology team to support the overall mission of the company and its long-term strategic business initiatives.

    • Act as the lead for the translation of business objectives and requirements into functional solutions from design to technological product.
    • Determine technical needs such as hardware, software, scalability and security requirements that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
    • Act as Technical Lead on strategic projects to ensure that solution is delivered on time and to specifications, meeting milestone deadlines, and accomplishing project action items.
    • Coordinate design and integration of overall architecture and parts of proposed systems with all IT teams and business units.
    • Lead brainstorming sessions and identify areas for process improvements and business transformation.
    • Design and develop technical solutions based on existing technologies.
    • Analyze the requirements of large systems and breaking them down into manageable units
    • Research available products to decide if they will be suitable for the project rather than building a completely new system
    • Discuss plans for the structure of the system with the business units
    • Work with senior IT managers on planning for the credit union’s future IT requirements
    • Assist with the implementation of new technologies and verify that all procedural documentation is accurate, and that knowledge transfer from the vendor to the engineering team is completed prior to any technology being placed in the Production environment.
    • Lead architecture reviews with vendors and internal IT staff. Document the design of each technology used by the credit union. Regularly review and update as-built documentation as needed.
    • Required to follow process of corporate change management, problem management and request systems; monitor assignment and completion of efforts documented in these systems; and properly escalate issues to management. This role may serve as a point of contact for interactions with vendors on for issue remediation and root cause analysis. 
    • Installs various types of software including operating systems and applications on a variety of hardware platforms including system updates, patches and configuration changes. Operating systems include Windows Server 2008/2012/2016 and ESX 5.5, 6.5
    • Analyze data from monitoring systems to recognize trends and create proactive solutions to prevent recurring issues. Monitoring solutions include SolarWinds, Manage Engine, Watchdog, and notices from MSSP.
    • Assist application teams with assessment of new technologies, application upgrades, and general technical support.
    • Facilitate training, coaching, and mentoring junior team members to promote their skills development.



    • Four year degree in Information Technology / Computer Science or equivalent technical training 
    • Industry certification for MCSE 2008/2012, VMware VCP, Citrix CCP-V, Lean Six Sigma, or ITIL strongly preferred.


    • Minimum five years of experience in information technology supporting servers and/or storage solutions
    • Minimum five years of experience installing and maintaining Intel servers.
    • Minimum five years of experience managing VMware and/or Citrix environment.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Broad knowledge of Powershell scripting and automation.
    • Project management experience as a technical lead or contributor on projects.
    • Extensive experience with securing a Microsoft server environment including Server 2008/2012/2016, Active Directory group policies, Exchange, SCCM, Distributed File Services, O365, PKI, DNS, DHCP, IIS, etc.
    • Extensive knowledge supporting and administering enterprise applications such as VMware vCenter, ESXi, Orchestrator, VDI solutions such as VMware View or XenDesktop, Exchange services, Rubrik backups, and Citrix Presentation Server.
    • Working knowledge and experience with ITIL foundation processes.
    • Experience with SolarWinds Orion monitoring.
    • Experience with Cisco UCS or HP server platforms, hyperconverged solutions including HPE Simplivity, EMC VxRail, or Cisco HyperFlex
    • Must be able to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently; and prioritize requests and complete assignments within an estimated timeframe; and organize, schedule, and coordinate a variety of activities and projects.
    • Extensive knowledge with highly available technical solutions across multiple data centers and the cloud.
    • Broad knowledge of storage solutions including SAN, NAS, CIFs, NFS, iSCSI, replication, deduplication.
    • Must have the ability to learn new software and hardware packages and adapt to changes in technology.
    • Must be self-starter and be able to use own judgment to undertake activities with minimal supervision. Must be work independently and as a team member. 
    • Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all those contacted during the course of work.
    • Must be able to carry lift and carry boxes containing computers components, printer paper, etc.
    • Hours may be unpredictable because of unforeseen problems arising, updates, etc.
    • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
    • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license.
    • Must be able to operate or have the ability to be trained to operate related office equipment, including computer room equipment, multifunction copier, and VOIP telephone.
